In 1999, new legislation came into force to enable the public to opt out of receiving cold calls from organisations trying to market their products or services, including calls to landlines and mobiles. This was extended to allow businesses to also opt out from the corporate database.
Companies which choose to ignore this ruling and continue to call opted-out people or organisations face huge fines from the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
NTA have the ability for organisations that wish to make lots of outbound calls, either with a dialer or manually dialled, to upload their data to check it against the TPS database, ensuring 100% compliance.
