What is SIP Trunking?
SIP Trunking is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology and streaming media service based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is how Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP’s) like NTA connect to an inhouse telephone system (PBX) and give them the ability to make and receive calls.

Prior to SIP being a widely adopted technology within the UK the choice of lines connected to an inhouse PBX was limited to either analogue or ISDN, these were expensive to install/increase and not very flexible. SIP is quite the opposite, easy to expand, very cost effective and flexible in being able to handle all types of communication e.g. voice, video and other streaming media such as true unified communication and collaboration features such as desktop sharing, web conferencing and whiteboarding.

BT have announced that the ISDN network will be turned off in 2025!
